OCHD background and purposes:

One Community Hampshire and Dorset (OCHD) is a multiple multicultural communities’ group that have been working closely together, and growing in number, for three+ years.  OCHD provides solutions and a unique platform for existing pan-Hampshire & Dorset BAME communities, community organisations, and respected community leads on shared issues, needs and solutions of inclusion, equality, culture sharing across BAME communities and the broader community, under the BAME communities leads accepted group name of One Community Hampshire and Dorset.  

OCHD component communities include but are not limited to the following BAME communities across the Hampshire area: Indian, Sikh, Bangladeshi, Malaysian Chinese, Keralan, Nepali, Goan, Ghanaian, Muslim, Gambian, and many more. 

Members of Parliament and local councillors across Hampshire and Dorset (including given political Group Leaders) are working with OCHD on the issues and needs referred to.   (including but not limited to counteracting race & culture related ASB, international students support issues), in addition embassies and High Commissions (such as the High Commission of India) recognise OCHD as a respected group/organisation valued for its multiple communities, multiple Hampshire-wide representation on issues and needs.  As such we provide a copy of emailed content in the Appendix section of this document, in which OCHD is clearly designated.

The OCHD Mission:

To see Hampshire & Dorset, the broader South Coast of England and adjacent regions and the UK itself, free of prejudice and direct and indirect discrimination, with particular emphasis on through educational means and policy level scrutiny and change, removal of race/ethnicity and related culture, context prejudice, discrimination and ASB.  BAME context and BAME communities’ members representation and support removal of prejudice and discrimination.  OCHD is also firmly committed to supporting effective delivery of the Equality Act 2010, and respects and enthusiastically supports pan-Protected Characteristics collaboration to enable the transformation of the UK in regard to cultivating and developing a powerful ‘on the ground delivered’ across all sectors of society and public services, national government & agencies, and local government delivery of services that are truly inclusive and indirect discrimination free.

OCHD’s Aims and Objectives:

1. To enable through advocacy, including policy change and policy development advocacy, information resources and educational materials, creation & dissemination and other appropriate activities services and activities, the inclusion, equality, integration, and socio-economic uplift, of South Asian and broader BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) communities in Hampshire, Dorset and adjacent South Coast of England, South East England, South West England regions, and the UK

2. To through information resources creation, events, activities support multicultural learning in furtherance of community cohesion and also international peoples to peoples’ friendship and relationships through projects

3.  To work in partnership with other organisations and community groups, at Hampshire & Dorset to national UK levels in regard to informing UK Government and Parliament on issues, needs, solutions concerning BAME inclusion, equality, anti-discrimination and combating of prejudice related hate crime, regarding local to national government organisations and agencies, including public service organisations access and equitable experience of the latter by BAME community members

Activities:

Across and within the South Coast (Hampshire & Dorset and adjacent areas of southern England) and beyond at national level, at multiple BAME communities voice – engagement/communication with, and influence on assessment of and where required advised solutions in regard to BAME communities perceptions on the quality of public services and local government provision operational delivery/performance. 

From the basis of Hampshire & Dorset and broader South Coast BAME communities experience AND broader other UK and England regions, including London, providing on where needed, requested from our BAME communities sides, national government

Beneficiaries: 

BAME communities members in and beyond the Hampshire & Dorset, and broader South Coast of England and adjacent areas and the SE England and SW England regions

Those seeking credible, deliverable solutions on UK level BAME communities issues & needs relating to national government & Parliament level policies and operational implementation level performance by public services and related national agencies

The broader Hampshire & Dorset, South Coast, England and broader UK general public in regard to major issues and needs on inclusion, anti-discrimination & prejudice.

Examples of OCHD beneficiary populations and groups include, but are NOT limited to:

·         International students: this on international students welfare, safety, and wellbeing in regard to the quality of related support they receive from their given university or language college/school, and broader local authority, public services, relevant national agencies/government departments performance, and relevant national-UK level policies at UK Government & Parliament levels

·         BAME communities’ targets and victims of race and culture related ASB (prejudice related Anti-Social Behaviour)

·         BAME community members experiencing forms of prejudice and direct and especially indirect discrimination in all settings (from, for example and not limited to, workplace and career progression, to experience of/treatment by UK immigration services [Home Office and Immigration Tribunal])

·         Those at executive to frontline levels in the public and private sectors seeking or requiring BAME-context equality, inclusion, diversity engagement & communication, training, and policy creation

·         Elected politicians (local authority to Westminster Parliament levels), and national government to local government and to public service organisations and agencies personnel from executive/directing/board levels to frontline, who have demonstrated/recorded BAME communities supportive anti-discrimination & prejudice perspectives
